Sowore Criticises Abdulsalami Abubakar’s Appearance Indian Hospital Advert

Published:

HUMAN rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC) in next year’s election, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) over his appearance in an advertisement for an Indian hospital where he underwent knee surgery.
Sowore said the video, which has elicited reactions from Nigerians, featuring footage from Abubakar’s visit to Krishna Shalby Hospital in Ahmedabad, India, in promotional material following his knee replacement surgery hospital there, was a “tragic indictment of failed leadership.”

He lamented that Nigerian leaders who had the opportunity to develop the country’s healthcare sector continue to seek medical treatment abroad, adding: “Abdulsalami failed to help build a world-class healthcare system in Nigeria during his time in office, but now relies on foreign medical institutions for treatment in old age.”

The hospital said Abubakar underwent total knee replacement at its facility and described his treatment as a milestone in international patient care.

Abubakar was Nigeria’s military ruler between 1998 and 1999.
