NIGERIA’S first Olympic gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, has described Nigeria’s performance at the just-concluded Paris Olympics as disheartening.
Recall that Team Nigeria did not win any medal, despite fielding 88 sportsmen and women in 12 events at the games in Paris, France.
Speaking on a television programme on Monday, August 12, Ajunwa said it was unfortunate that the country lost the whole chances, noting that athletes wasted their time, energy and resources.
According to her: “It’s quite disheartening that every year, Nigeria tells this kind of story. If you could remember, after the last Olympics before this, it was still the same thing.
“You know they will keep on telling us, ‘oh, let them go back to the drawing board, the drawing board we never see; and we don’t know how to draw on the board.
“It’s quite unfortunate that we have lost the whole chances. And the athletes to have wasted their time, their energy and their own personal resources.
“It is quite unfortunate that Nigeria spent so much, but that one is not my business, because we don’t spend that money when we are supposed to spend it.”
