THE Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, as additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

A statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, on Tuesday, April 9, in Abuja, said the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who gave the additional approval on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Muslims for successful completion of the Holy month of Ramadan fast.

Describing Ramadan as “the month of spiritual rejuvenation,” the minister reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to providing safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.

The government had on Sunday, April 7, declared Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr, which means holiday of breaking the fast celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan.

Meanwhile, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Tuesday, April 9 as the 30th day of Ramadan and Eid-El-Fitr to be celebrated on Wednesday, April 10.

Abubakar, in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Janaidu,, said: “The Sultanate Council’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moon Sighting Committee, did not receive any reports across the country confirming sighting of the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday.

“Therefore, Tuesday, April 9, is declared as the 30th day of the month of Ramadan 1445AH.

“The Sultan has accepted the report and accordingly, declared Wednesday, April 10, as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH, the day of Eid-El-Fitr.”

The statement said Abubakar extended his felicitations to the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.

While urging Muslims to continue praying for peace, progress and development in the country, the Sultan also wished them a happy Eid-El-Fitr.
