FOR Flight Lieutenant Damilola, daughter of the late Wing Commander E. O. Adekunle, who died in a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft crash in Benue State in 2006, military air crashes have become a nightmare.
According to a report by Ethnic African Stories on Facebook, Wing Commander Adekunle was serving as the co-pilot of a NAF Dornier 228 aircraft when it crashed in the Oko area of Vandeikya Local Council of Benue State on September 17, 2006, in which 13 military officers reportedly died.
Twenty years later, tragedy struck the family again, affecting Damilola in particular.
According to Ethnic African Stories, Damilola married Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje on September 19, this year. And just 16 days after their wedding, Man-Ugwueje was among the NAF personnel killed in the crash of NAF 931 at Igbokoda area of Ilaje Local Council of Ondo State on October 5.

Man-Ugwueje was the aircraft’s co-pilot when the aircraft on a routine mission crashed, killing all those on board.
The Ethnic African Stories report said Man-Ugwueje was the son of a retired Group Captain Man-Ugwueje.
Though separated by two decades, both crashes have, no doubt, brought untold pains to the Damilola and her family.
