*Charges Nigerians To Stay On Course

DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged Nigerians to remain steadfast and united, saying sustained commitment to the current reform efforts is essential to achieving lasting development and prosperity.

Oborevwori urged Deltans to continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, and his administration’s MORE Agenda, noting that continuity and stability in governance were critical to delivering sustainable development.

The governor said his administration was complementing federal efforts through massive infrastructure projects, investment in renewable energy, job creation and measures designed to attract foreign direct investment to Delta.

Oborevwori, in his Independence Day message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said: “There is hope on the horizon and brighter days ahead. There is light at the end of the tunnel,” urging citizens to remain patient, resilient and committed to the Nigerian project.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, pledging to continue implementing policies and programmes that would improve living standards of the people and expand opportunities across the state.

He congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary, urging them to remain hopeful and united as the country works towards a more prosperous future.

At the ceremonial match-past, held at the Cenotaph on High Court Road, Asaba, featuring the Nigeria Police Force (NPF); Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC); National Youth Service Corps (NYSC); Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA); Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and representatives of local government councils across the state, Oborevwori charged Nigerians to uphold unity, dialogue and compassion, saying the country’s diversity remains a source of strength and its unity the foundation for a prosperous future.

He congratulated Nigerians at home and abroad, said the country had endured several challenges since independence, including a civil war, economic difficulties, political transitions and periods of uncertainty.

He stated that despite the challenges, the Nigerian spirit has endured, stressing that the country had continued to rebuild, adapt and move forward.

The governor recalled that 66 years ago, the Green-White-Green flag was raised, marking the beginning of Nigeria’s journey as an independent country, and “today, we remember our founding fathers and all those who sacrificed and contributed to the building of a united Nigeria and to moving our nation forward.”

He said Nigeria’s diversity should be regarded as strength, while unity should remain the foundation for its future, acknowledging that the challenges confronting the country were real, but so is its capacity to overcome them.

He urged Nigerians to place national interest above narrow considerations, as doing so would help build a Nigeria where citizens could live with dignity, justice and fairness, while young people would have opportunities to build meaningful lives.

The governor said Delta State would continue to contribute to national development through the implementation of his administration’s MORE Agenda, with emphasis on infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth and women empowerment, agriculture, artisan support and peace-building.

Oborevwori reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, assuring that no community, ethnic group, gender or generation would be left behind, as his government remains committed to ensuring that both riverine and upland communities had a stake in the development of the state, noting that true progress is measured by how widely its benefits are felt.

He called on Nigerians to demonstrate empathy and support for people and families facing difficult circumstances, stressing that tragedies should not be exploited for personal or sectional advantage, adding: “Behind every tragedy are real people and families who are enduring pain.

“Their pain deserves our respect and compassion. Let us, therefore, reject division, embrace dialogue and continue to respect one another.”     He congratulated President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government and Nigerians on the occasion, while praying for continued peace, wisdom, courage and prosperity for the country.
