Elumelu Appointed Seplat Energy Chairman

INVESTOR and philanthropist, Tony O. Elumelu, has been announced as Chairman of the Board of Seplat Energy Plc from January 1, next year, in a major leadership transition.
This followed the planned retirement of the current Chairman, Udoma Udo Udoma, on December 31, this year, after steering the Board through the integration of MPNU and the development of the company’s 2030 strategic plan.
Also, the Board confirmed the retirement of its Chief Executive Officer, Roger Brown, on July 31, this year, after what the company described as a transformational tenure marked by aggressive growth, strategic acquisitions and operational expansion across Africa’s energy sector.
Seplat, in a statement on Monday, June 8, said the changes were aimed at strengthening leadership continuity, while accelerating execution of its long-term 2030 strategic roadmap.
The also Board announced that Effiong Okon, an engineer, will succeed Brown as Chief Executive Officer from effective August 1, this year.
Okon previously served as Operations Director, New Energy Director and recently, Managing Director of ANOH Gas Processing Company, where he oversaw the project’s delivery to first gas in January this year.
Elumelu, Founder of Heirs Holdings and Chairman of United Bank for Africa, holds a 20.07 per cent stake in Seplat through Heirs Holdings.
He is widely acclaimed for his pan-African investment advocacy and philanthropic work through the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
