DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for next year’s general elections.
Oborevwoei, who was unopposed, was affirmed as the candidate by 345,375 party members across all the wards in the state during the party’s direct primary election.
The governor, while commended the exercise, enthused that the APC remained united ahead of the polls.
Speaking after voting in his Ward in Okpe Local Council, Oborevwori commended the party leadership for conducting what he described as a transparent, peaceful and exemplary primary election, saying the large turnout across the 270 wards demonstrated grassroots participation and reflected the confidence party members had in his leadership.
He said the peaceful conduct marked a departure from the past, stressing that adherence to due process eliminated tensions often associated with party contests.
According to him: “For the first time in Delta State, our primaries were conducted peacefully without violence, crisis or loss of lives. Nobody imposed candidates on the people. The people freely chose those they wanted.”
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Vita Abba, while announcing the outcome at the party secretariat in Asaba, venue of the collation centre, declared Oborevwori as the candidate, having scored 345,375 votes and satisfied the party’s constitutional requirements and secured the highest number of valid votes cast.
Former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, said the turnout was an indication of support for Oborevwori’s administration, while Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the governor’s emergence was a show of confidence in his leadership.
In a post o his X handle later, Oborevwori stated: “Today, as the sole governorship aspirant of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, I participated in the primary election exercise in Ward 3, Okpe LGA.
“The APC governorship primary was peaceful and rancour-free across the 270 wards in the state, and I appreciate the model adopted by the party.
“Addressing newsmen after the primary election, I urged those who emerged victorious to extend the hand of fellowship to their opponents.
“Now, we are ready and fully prepared for the 2027 general elections.”
