*Protesters Lay Siege To Villa, NASS Over Sanusi’s Reinstatement
A YOUTH group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), APC Youth Crusaders For Peace and Development (APC-YCPD), has expressed concern over possible break down of law and order following Governor Abba Yusuf’s reinstatement of Muhammad Sanusi as the Emir of Kano and sacking of the five emirs in the state.
This is even as some protesters on Friday, May 24, marched to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa and the National Assembly in protest the reinstatement of Muhammed Sanusi 11 as the Emir of Kano.
Speaking with journalists during the protest, leader of the Northern Nigeria Peace and Development Foundation (NNPDF), Abdullahi Saleh, said Governor Abba Yusuf was taking steps to erode the legacy of his predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
APC-YCPD said the development was capable of destabilising the state, insisting the dethronement of the five emirs could trigger generational conflict.
Its National Coordinator, Cyril Adamu, in a statement issued on Friday, May 24, warned against alleged plot by some powerful figures in the state to cause chaos in Kano and other parts of Nigeria.
Adamu noted that the governor’s action was “intended to stoke unrest in the state and the country to destabilise President Tinubu’s administration.”
He stated: “Governor Yusuf, being a Northerner and fully aware of the value the subjects of the emirates placed on the royal stools, decided to abolish the emirates, just to spark unrest in the state, in a bid to destabilise the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“The manner in which the controversial Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 was signed into law by the governor the same day it was passed by the state House of Assembly, raised suspicions that it is a calculated move to destroy the traditional institutions in the state, and by extension, the peace and stability of the state and the country at large.
“The governor plans to revert Kano to a single emirate by reinstating the deposed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II. This could lead to a breakdown of law and order and a generational conflict between the ruling houses of Kano. Political unrest is already brewing in the state following the controversial bill’s signing into law.”
Saleh, on his part, called on President Bola Tinubu to quickly intervene to prevent the state from sliding into anarchy, adding: “A lot has been going wrong in the state, but the concerned patriots of Nigeria had thought it best to allow Kano State to sort out its thorny issues.
“However, Thursday’s brash actions of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, who sacked five emirs to reappoint Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano has awoken us to the urgency of raising the alarm about the destructive excesses of the state governor.
“Since being sworn into office, Yusuf has had a string of loutish acts that run like a hardened criminal’s rap sheet.
“This latest stunt of sacking five emirs to install his acolyte was achieved by manipulating the Kano State House of Assembly, which he had successfully turned into a rubber stamp, to endorse his illegal acts.
“They, alongside Yusuf, have taken their desperation to an extent that could set the ancient city on fire and cause breaches in the land.
“We are here today to appeal to President Tinubu to intervene in the Kano Emirate crisis.”
