Youth Leader Forcefully Takes Over As Edo Labour Party Chairman

Published:

THE Edo State Youth Leader of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Ken Omusi, on Thursday took over as the acting chairman of the party, ousting the Kelly Ogbaloi-led State Working Committee (SWC).

Addressing journalists in Benin, Omusi announced the formation of a three-man interim executive committee, with himself as the chairman, to run the affairs of the party, pending the election of new executives.

He attributed the change in leadership to the alleged oppressive and autocratic leadership style of the previous executives, saying the former executives were bent on destroying the party with the suspension of over 350 members without following proper disciplinary procedures.

Omusi called on the national leadership of the party in Abuja to ratify the decision in the best interest of the party.

But, Ogbaloi insisted that he remained the authentic Edo State LP chairman, saying Omusi lacked the authority to sack any member of the SWC and that only the National Working Committee (NWC) has such power.
