THE Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has criticised the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, saying they have worsened the suffering of the masses and leading to increased pain, hunger and anger in the land, which have boiled over into the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests.
Speaking on Wednesday, August 7, while launching the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign for the August 17 council election in the state, the governor stressed that the federal government’s new policies are ineffective, urging the President to acknowledge this and make necessary adjustments, adding: “It’s their problem, stemming from their programmes, so they must change their approach.”
Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, described Tinubu’s national broadcast on Sunday, August 4, as empty and failing to address the grievances of the protesters against hunger and hardship.
The governor stated that the speech did not agree with the situation on ground in the country and “did not address the problem and challenges,” while admitting that the problems cut across various levels of governance.
“We can see the manifestations with different colourations, from the North to the South, saying the North in particular needs to address the problems of hunger, anger, unemployment and lack of development.
“The new policies of the federal government are not working. They have to understand that. It is their problem; it is their programmes that have caused us these problems, so they have to change.
“On your behalf, I’m telling Mr. President to change his policy because it’s not working.”
He lamented that Tinubu’s actions have widespread consequences, extending to every part of the country and affecting all political parties.
