THE United States (US) Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said his country was actively collaborating with the Nigerian government and security forces on counterterrorism efforts, following concerns over violence against Christians in the country.
Rubio added that the cooperation recently led to a joint operation that eliminated the second-highest-ranking global ISIS leader operating from Nigeria.
According to him: “Many were very concerned about violence against Christians. We are now actively in counterterrorism cooperation with the Nigerian government and Nigerian security forces, including a joint operation a couple weeks ago that took out the number two leader of global ISIS operating from inside of the country, and that continues.”
He said counterterrorism cooperation between both countries remains ongoing.
