PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu was on Wednesday, March 18, given a ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle to mark the beginning of his state visit to the United Kingdom (UK), the first such visit to the country by a Nigerian leader in 37 years.
Tinubu and his wife, Oluremi, were treated to a 42 gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
They were earlier greeted by Prince William and Princess Catherine, who later presented them to King Charles and Queen Camila at the Castle, where the king will host them at the royal residence for the two-day visit.
There will also be exchanges of gifts and displays of items related to Nigeria kept in the Royal Collection, before an opulent state banquet in St George’s Hall.
At the banquet, which will hold in the evening, Charles and Tinubu will both give speeches at the event to be attended by political leaders and celebrities with links to Nigeria.
There will be no traditional lunch with the king at Windsor as Tinubu, a Muslim, is fasting for Ramadan.
Nigeria’s Firsy Family will also lay a wreath of flowers on the tomb of the late Queen Elizabeth II, in St George’s Chapel, and later meet with organisations engaged in interfaith dialogue.
