*Oborevwori Harps On Maintenance Of Critical Infrastructure
THE Federal Government has unveiled the 125-kilometre Benin-Asaba Highway, scheduled for completion in the next 30 months.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who represented President Bola Tinubu, who was represented at the ceremony, said the road is a legacy project, comparimg Edo with Lagos, in terms of infrastructural development.
Whie thanking Tinubu for the love shown to Edo State under his administration, Okpebholo said: “The President loves Edo State so much so that whenever he sees me, he always asks me about the welfare of the Edo people and also that of the Oba of Benin.
“The good things happening in Lagos are now also happening here in Edo State and we have made progress under my watch as governor.
“We once had a President from this region that never remembered us. Edo is a gateway to the nation and when the roads are bad, the economy of the state will be bad as well.”
The governor commended the President for his vision for the country, saying the people are enjoying the dividends of democracy following the good initiatives of his administration.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, expressed appreciation to the President for what he is doing for the people of Edo and Delta states, appealing to him to extend the road to Onitsha Bridge, describing the road as a critical infrastructure that should be maintained always.
Oborevwori, who was represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, said the road is a critical infrastructure that connects the eastern and western parts of the country and would improve the standard of living of the people.
He stated: “This 125km express way is critical infrastructure that connects the Eastern and Western regions of our country, as such, it should be maintained.
“This partnership will not only improve the safety and efficiency of travel, but also unlock the economic potentials of the region.
“Expectedly, this project will generate significant economic benefits, including job creation and increase trade and general standard of living of our people.
“As we flag off this project, I urged all participants and stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful completion of this project within the stipulated time frame.
“Let us all work together to build a modern and safe transportation system that will drive the economic growth of our region.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Delta State, I express our profound gratitude to the President for this noble initiative.
“To the Federal Ministry of Works, I express my appreciation to you for your efforts in promoting Private Public Partnership (PPP) in infrastructural development.
“I hope that this project will be completed within the scheduled time.”
Minister of Works, Chief Dave Umahi, commended the visionary leadership of Okpebholo, who he said has turned the state into a construction site less than 150 days in office.
He re-echoed Tinubu’s love for the people of Edo, recalling that as a minister, he has visited the state about three times for projects.
Umahi also commended Okpebholo for his love and commitment for his people through the execution of of people-oriented projects, such as the flyover at Ramat Park in Benin City, the state capital.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, commended Tinubu’s foresight in ensuring that Nigerians enjoy good roads across the country, assuring that funds for the project are available and as such would be completed on schedule.
