Tinubu Extends Correctional, Immigration Services Heads’ Tenures

Published:

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has approved 18-month tenure extensions for the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and his Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) counterpart, Kemi Nanna Nandap.

With the extension, Nwakuche’s tenure will now end on May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said this followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both Services and would allow the Board enough time to appoint successors.

Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms achieved under their leadership, charging them to consolidate these gains.

The President nominated Nwakuche to the position in December 2024, which was confirmed by the senate in March 2025, while Nandap was appointed on February 21, 2024, and confirmed on March 1, 2024.
