TERRORISTS have killed scores of people and injured many more in series of attacks on several communities in Kankara Local Council of Katsina State.
The late Sunday night, June 9, attacks that lasted into the early hours of Monday, June 10, also led to the abduction of several residents of affected communities by the armed men.
It was gathered that several residents were killed in the attacks, including women, children and the elderly.
Unconfirmed sources put the number of dead at over 50,
saying more dead bodies were being recovered on Monday morning, while some of the injured later died from their injuries.
“It is one of the saddest days for people of affected communities in Kankara. Government needs to really do something for lasting solution these security challenges,” a source said.
He said dozens of residents, including women and children, who were abducted, were whisked away into the forest by the terrorists, adding that residents were still carrying out head counts to determine the actual number of those kidnapped, while the injured were receiving treatment at the hospital.
Recall that terrorists in large numbers, last week, invaded several villages in Dutsinma and Safana Local Councils, where they killed over 40 persons, looted many homes and abducted unspecified number of people.
Also last week, terrorists also killed three persons in Dandume Local Council and injured scores, while domestic animals and private properties were taken away in the process.
These happened a few days after terrorists abducted two staff of the Federal University, Dutsinma (FUDMA) and son of one of the victims at their GRA residence in the Council .
Though efforts from the federal and state governments had led to a reduction in spate of terrorists attacks, the situation, however, continues to recur, especially in hard-to-reach communities.
Spokesperson for the state Police Command, Abubakar Aliyu (ASP), could not be immediately reached to comments.
