THE three-member faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, on Tuesday, May 21, screened and confirmed eight nominees as commissioners referred to it by the governor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the screening took place at the temporary legislative chambers located within the Government House, Port Harcourt.

The commissioner designates are to fill some of the vacancies created by the recent resignation of nine commissioners loyal to the immediate past governor of the state and current Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

During the sitting, Oko-Jumbo read the correspondence from the governor requesting the screening and confirmation of the nominees.

He said the screening was part of the Assembly’s responsibility in the governance of the state, expressing the legislature’s commitment towards supporting the governor to provide democracy dividends to Rivers people.

Responding, the House Leader, Sokari Good-boy, and Deputy Speaker, Adolphus Timothy, unanimously adopted the request, recalling that most of the nominees had previously served the state in various capacities without blemish.

The commissioner-designates were Charles Bakee; Collins Onunwo; Peter Medee; Elloka Amadi; Basoene Benibo; Sydney Gbara; Ovy Chukwuma and Solomon Eke.
