Rivers Assembly Fails To Reconvene After Move To Impeach Fubara, Odu

Published:

THE Rivers State House of Assembly, on Thursday, January 15, failed to resume plenary, one week after adjourning its last sitting, following its moves to impeach Governor Similanayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, for alleged misconduct.
The lawmakers, led the Speaker, martin Amaewhule, had during its first sitting this year last Thursday commenced impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, over alleged gross misconduct, including demolition of the state assembly complex and spending without legislative approval, among others before adjourning until January 15.
But by noon on Thursday, there was no indication that the House would sit at its temporary chamber at the conference hall of its official legislative quarters. And no explanation was immediately provided for the delay.
Already, four lawmakers have so far retreated from the move.
