Restiveness: Anambra Monarch Sets Up Elders Council To Restore Peace, Cohesion

IN view of rising tension, insecurities and restiveness within communities in Anambra State, the traditional ruler of Ideani in Idemili North Local Council of the state, Igwe Steve Ezeji, has constituted an 18-member Elders Council to assist him in the management and supervision of community affairs, peace and arbitration.
This is in accordance with Setting the provisions of Section 35(g) of Ideani Community’s Constitution 2012, as amended.
A statement signed by Secretary of the Igwe-In-Council, Chief Theo Ikenwa (Ichie Okenya), the Council of Elders is meant to assist the Eze-In-Council in the dispensation of justice and arbitration of cases and other advisory roles.
     The Council is chaired by Ezeani-Ideani, Chief Nonso Nzenwokwu, by virtue of Section 34(2) of the community’s operational 2012 constitution, with Messrs Obichukwu Ezika; Basil Ojukwu; Gilbert Umeji; Nze Alex Okide; Nze Rufus Okoye, Nze Ubanwa Onyenwozor and Nze Sebastian Okonkwo, among others, as members.
The statement made available to journalists in Awka, the state capital, said the Council has since commenced duty.
Ikenwa, in an interview, confirmed that the state government, through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Tony Collins Nwabunwanne, has been officially communicated, saying the Council is to foster the enhancement and promotion of communal unity, peaceful co-existence and brotherly cohesion in the community.
He added that due to restiveness in the country, the monarchs were expected to rise up to the occasion by adopting all necessary and workable measures to maintain firm control.
