Ogun Command Confirms Arrest, Detension

CONTROVERSIAL Nigerian musician, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has turned himself in to the Lagos State Police Command.

He presented himself at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, days after he was declared wanted.

Following his surrender, Portable was escorted to Ogun State Command, which declared him wanted, and would be taken into custody.

The musician had earlier on Tuesday, February 18, referred to himself as a “mad man” and claimed that he was undergoing treatment for mental health issues at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta, in his plea for leniency.

Portable was declared wanted over allegations that he physically assaulted three staff of Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development from the Ota Zonal Office, who had gone to seal his business premises over some contraventions.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Command, on Wednesday, February 19, confirmed Portable’s arrest and detention.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Omolola Odutola (CSP), the Command said he was being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, upon his arrival at exactly 1:23pm on Tuesday, February 19.

Odutola assured that further investigations were ongoing, while the musician would be processed in accordance with the law.

“The enforcement officers sustained various bodily injuries, but managed to escape and reported the incident to the Ota Area Command, which subsequently escalated the case to the SCID for further action.

“While nine of his accomplices were arrested, Portable evaded arrest, prompting the Command to obtain a valid court order declaring him wanted.

“The Command assures the public that due process will be followed in handling this matter and updates will be provided as necessary.

“We urge the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to upholding justice and maintaining public order,” Odutola stated.
