Police Officer Runs Amok, Guns Down Many In Calabar

AN unidentified Police officer, on Sunday, March 23, ran amok and gunned down many persons at the Watt business area of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The officer, an Inspector, was said to have emerged from a nearby Police station with his cocked gun and began shooting indicriminately, as was observed in video uploaded by an eyewitness, Official Calabar Gist, with one of the dead victims on the ground.
According to the account, many traders were feared killed in the process, with others injured, adding: “S@D!! Happen in Calabar this Sunday morning. An Inspector of Police ran m@d, open fire openly K!ll$ marketers and some !njured.”
In his reaction, the Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident, but did not give any detail, promising to issue a press release on the incident, even as it confirmed that the Inspector had been arrested and was in detention.
No details were given on casualty figures nor was the officer identified, with the statement saying: “The matter has been handled this morning and the Inspector is in detention.
“A press release will be released in a short while.”
