THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has initiated an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of a lady in an Abuja hotel recently.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh (SP), in a statement on Wednesday, June 18, in Abuja, that the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Ajao Adewale, gave the order following a viral video showing a young woman dead in a hotel room located in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja with her hands tied behind her.
She said: “In swift response to the tragic incident, the CP has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim, later identified as Aladi Johnson, also known as Tessy, a female from Benue State, checked into a hotel located at 3rd Avenue, Gwarinpa, on June 16.
“The investigation revealed the lady checked into the hotel in the company of an unidentified male who was later observed to have exited the premises without her.”
Adeh stated that the victim was discovered unconscious by hotel staff during routine service rounds, prompting immediate notification to the Police, adding, however, that she confirmed dead upon medical evaluation.
As the investigation is ongoing, she said the Police chief has urged the public to remain calm and allow the Police to carry out a comprehensive inquiry, while advising young ladies to exercise caution in their interactions, especially with unfamiliar individuals, and always share their whereabouts with friends or family members for safety purposes.
The Police commissioner also charged hotel operators to strengthen internal security protocols, including mandatory identity verification for guests, and install functional surveillance systems at all times to aid both deterrence and investigation.
The commissioner, while commiserating with the deceased family, assured that efforts were being made to bring the perpetrator(s) to justice.
The lady was been found dead in the hotel, kneeling by the bed, with her hands tied behind. According to reports, she apparently checked into the hotel with a man on Monday, June 16, around 1pm and by the following morning during a routine service round, a staff found out the room was locked from outside.
He was said to have alerted his colleagues and they broke in only to find her kneeling lifeless by the bed with her hands tied behind; hence they called the Police, while medical examiners reportedly confirmed her dead, allegedly from strangling.
