THE Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims that a large number of Boko Haram insurgents were arrested in the state, describing the report as false and aimed at causing public fear.
Recall that on Thursday, April 17, head of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Lagos, Kumar Sanda, claimed that hundreds of suspected Boko Haram members had been apprehended in the state.
However, in his reaction, the Command’s spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, April 18, said the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had ordered an immediately investigation into the claims, which found no evidence of any Boko Haram presence or arrests across the state.
The statement stressed that leaders and workers in the trailer park areas mentioned in the report confirmed that no such individuals were seen or detained there, adding: “To verify the claim, surveillance officers, the Lagos State Police Intelligence Department (SID) and other Police units were dispatched to the specified areas.
“No arrests or sightings of Boko Haram members were reported anywhere in Lagos State.”
The Police image maker described the report as entirely false and designed to cause panic in the state, assuring residents, however, that there was no cause for alarm and to ignore the rumour and continue their daily activities without fear.
