THE Delta State Police Command has confirmed Public Relations Officer PPRO in Delta State, Nigeria, Bright Edafe, a Superintendent of Police SP has officially confirmed the invasion of King Jesus & I Church in Asaba and the kidnap of its Founder-Presiding Pastor and immediate past commissioner for Higher Education, Joan Onyemaechi Mrapkpor, popularly known as Ada Anioma, in the premises on Tuesday, July 30.

Mrakpor was reportedly holding evening service at the church premises located off the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) road in Asaba when the attackers stormed the venue, shooting sporadically before taking away their target.

Edafe said “one policeman was killed, but we are on their trail,” adding: “The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abaniwonda Olufemi, has directed that all Tactical Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) deploy all available resources to checkmate the activities of armed robbers, kidnappers and other criminal elements in the state.

“Members of the public are advised to reach out to the Command in cases of distress through any of the following dedicated Control Room numbers: 08036684974, 08125958005, 09053872287.”

Mrakpor, a former member of the House of Representatives for Aniocha Federal Constituency, ahead of the July 13 local government elections, resigned her position to pave the way for her younger brother to emerge as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Aniocha South Local Council, which he eventually won.

This has aroused suspicion that the incident might be politically motivated and has made many politicians in the state, including the capital city, to become apprehensive.
