THE Plateau State Police Command has announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the attacks and killing of about 200 people on Christmas eve in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Councils.
Suspected armed herdsmen attacked about 17 communities in the two councils, killing and injuring many residents and razing several houses.
While confirming the arrests in Jos, the state capital, the Command’s spokesman, Mr. Alfred Alabo, said the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off by residents of the affected communities and were being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
According to him: “Some people have been arrested and they are in custody undergoing interrogation. As of the last count, they were eight in number.
“But at the moment, the affected communities and villages are relatively calm and our men are on ground to ensure that the peace that has been restored is maintained.”
On Monday, January 1, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, said the Nigerian military had arrested some suspects over the massacre, adding that the military was also working with state governments to reclaim all communities presently captured by terrorists across the country.
