THE Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, who is in the storm of the controversy surrounding the operation of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), on Monday, July 20, honoured an invitation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in the ongoing investigation into the activities of the council.
Gbajabiamila’s appearance was confirmed by his lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, in a statement on Monday, in compliance with the President’s directive.
According to the statement: “In full cooperation with the ICPC, acting as directed by the President, I hereby confirm that my client, Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to the President, responded to the invitation of the ICPC and appeared about 15:00hrs on Monday, July 20, 2026, as part of the ongoing investigation into the activities of the PFIPC, among others.
“My client gave his testimony, responded to questions accordingly and has returned to his duty post.”
Gbajabiamila has denied any involvement in the activities of the fake council and allegations against him by the purported director general of the agency, Adeniyi Adeyemi, in a statement on oath, maintaining that he had no personal, official or professional relationship with Adeyemi.
He also denied the allegation of demanding or receiving any money, abusing his office or interfering with law enforcement agencies, any involvement in the death of Babatunde Tanimola, whom Adeyemi claimed acted as an intermediary and allegations linking him to an alleged assassination attempt on Adeyemi or interference with investigations by security agencies.
Recall that Tinubu directed the ICPC to investigate the matter, following the allegations.
Gbajabiamila, through his legal team, led by Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), described the allegations as false, malicious and defamatory, and has instituted a defamation suit against Adeyemi at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, over the allegations, is seeking N10billion in general damages, N5billion in aggravated damages, N200million as the cost of the action and an order directing Adeyemi to publish a retraction and apology in five national newspapers and across all social media platforms where the alleged defamatory statements were published.
Adeyemi was apprehended last week by the Police in Osun State after a court issued a bench warrant for his arrest, following his failure to appear for his scheduled arraignment.
