According to security analyst, Brant Philip, loud explosions were heard in the western part of the capital as a result of clashes between the suspected militants and troops.

“Heavy clashes between suspected ISWAP militants and the Nigerian army in the outskirts of Maiduguri tonight, capital of Borno State in northeast Nigeria.”
It was gathered later that combined security operatives, including troops from the land and air components of Operation Hadin Kai, the Police and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) successfully repelled the terrorist attack on Ajilari Cross area of Maiduguri.
Troops in the early hours of Monday, also repelled what appeared to be a coordinated and simultaneous attack by the terrorists in the Damboa Local Council.
Spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, Nahum Daso (ASP), said the attack was foiled by security forces, made up of soldiers, Police, hunters and CJTF members.
Daso could not immediately confirm if there were casualties, saying: “For now, we are yet to get any information regarding that.”
He, however, urged the public to remain calm and desist from sharing unverified information.
Following the loud explosions and sustained gunfire, residents of Dala, Bulamari and Ajilari-Cross in Konduga Local Council fled their homes in search of safety as the situation escalated.
