Oborevwori Mourns, As Family Announces Gbagi’s Death At 62

DELTA State Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his condolences to the family of the late former minister of State for Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, who passed on Saturday, May 4, at the age of 62.

    Gbagi, a senior lawyer, businessman, industrialist and governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in last year’s general elections, died after a brief illness.

    In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor, while describing Gbagi’s death as tragic, unfortunate and heart-wrenching, commiserated with the people of Ughelli South Local Council and Oginibo community, in particular, over the passage of the renowned politician and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain.

    He noted that the deceased, a criminologist, entrepreneur and lawyer, was chairman, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, and later, minister of State for Education under the President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Oborevwori said: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of a renowned politician and astute businessman, Chief Kenneth Gbagi, in Lagos on Saturday.

“News of his death came to me as a terrible shock and my heart-felt condolences go to his family, the people of Oginibo and members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).”

   He prayed to God to grant fortitude to the family and friends he left to bear the loss.

    A statement announcing his death signed by his eldest son, Chief Emuoboh Gbagi, on behalf of the Gbagi family, said: “It is with profound sadness, but gratitude to God, that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, husband and brother, Olorogun Kenneth Omemavwa Gbagi, who departed this life on May 4, 2024 at the age of 62.

    “We take comfort in the fond memories of his life, his achievements and the impact he made on the lives of countless individuals and communities.

   “We kindly request your thoughts and prayers for our family during this challenging time of loss.

   “May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
