Oborevwori Dedicates Supreme Court Victory To God, Deltans

Published:

DELTA State Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, yesterday, thanked God and dedicated his victory at the Supreme Court to the people of the state.

Oborevwori, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18, last year governorship, defeated his closest rivals- Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi of Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Mr. Ken Pela of Labour Party (LP), to emerge governor.

Speaking at a thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, after his victory was affirmed by the apex court, the governor said God was not a man that could lie and that He alone delivered him from all the 38 pre-election and post-election cases instituted against him right from the electioneering period.

Oborevwori stated: “I pledged to serve God every time and whenever I get victory, I come to thank God for the victory, for the Lord has redeemed me and glorified Delta state. This victory is not about me, but about the people of Delta.

“I am the only governor that had 38 cases during the governorship race and I won all the cases.”

He appreciated the support of the people of the state, his legal team, his party and all stakeholders during the trying period, pledging to ensure that the state gets more, in line with his M.O.R.E. Agenda.

“I want to thank and commend our team of lawyers and the entire judiciary, which has remained the hope of the common man.

“My Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, and I will be servant-leaders to all. This victory is for the people of Delta,” he said.

The governor urged his opponents to join hands with him to build the state.

Pastor Cyril Okoye, State Coordinator on Religious Matters, in his exhortation, said the victory was a product of grace of God upon the governor, which had sustained him through the challenging times.

Dignitaries at the service include the former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and his wife, Edith; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Emmomotimi Guwor; state PDP Chairman, Chief Kingsley Esiso and commissioners.
