Obi: Why I Visited Atiku, Saraki, Lamido

Published:

THE presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in last year’s general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has explained why he paid described as “private visits” to prominent leaders of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including the former vice president and presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar; a former senate president, Bukola Saraki, and former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido.

The visit has attracted several comments, including from his supporters, and raised questions about his future plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku announced Obi’s visit on his X handle, informing his followers that  he was always delighted to receive the former Anambra State governor, who was his running mate on the PDP ticket in the 2019 general elections.

While Atiku’s media aide, Paul Ibe, said: “The meeting was held behind closed doors, but we haven’t been briefed,” his Obi’s counterpart, Yunusa Tanko, said in a statement that “the state of the nation and the plight of the poor” inspired the visits.

Tanko added: “Mr. Peter Obi has continued to live up to his expressed commitment to the peace and progress of the nation. His abiding devotion is to the emergence of a Nigeria that works for all its peoples and where the people are quickly pulled out of poverty.”
