THE Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has assured Nigerians that there is no plan to increase in the cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol.
The company, in a statement by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, on Wednesday, January 3 urged Nigerians to disregard any rumours of hike in the pump price of petrol, adding: “Motorists nationwide are advised against engaging in panic buying, as there is presently ample availability of petrol across the country.”
There have been media reports that fuel marketers, under the aegis of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), had disagreement with the company over payment of subsidy.
Buy Soneye, in his reaction, emphasised that subsidy had been completely removed on petrol and NNPC did not have any dispute with IPMAN over any subsidy payment on petrol, as alleged.
IPMAN National President, Mr. Chinedu Okoronkwo, has also dispelled the rumours of dispute with the NNPC, urging the public to ignore such news.
