THE Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Lafia, the state capital, has nullified the election of Governor Abdullahi Sule and declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the election, David Ombugadu, as the winner.
The three-man panel, led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, while delivering judgment via zoom on Monday, October 2, noted that the petitioner (Ombugadu) was able to prove his case beyond reasonable doubt over alleged over- voting and disruption of votes, among other irregularities.
Former governors Abdullahi Adamu and Tanko Al-makura were among other top politicians present at the courtroom.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) re-elected for a second term in the March 28 governorship election.
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Ishaya Tanko, declared that the APC candidate polled a total of 347,209 votes, as against PDP’s 283, 016 votes.
