THE 20 medical and dental students kidnapped in Benue State late on Thursday, August 15, have cried out for help as their abductors demand a ransom of N50million for their release.
One of the students, Kwaghaondo Aondona Kingsley, who managed to alert the public by posting a desperate message on his X account, said the group of students had been without food or any form of care for two days.

He added: “We were kidnapped on our way to Enugu for a convention. They are requesting N50million for the 20 of us, medical students.

“Please, help us. We haven’t eaten for two days. Contact Pius at 08163420157; he is coordinating the funds.

“They said they would start killing us tomorrow,” Kingsley said.

An online report said one of the victims, identified as a House Officer, named simply as Dr. Louis, writing on an X account that reports issues in the medical field- @Nigerian_Doctor, appealled to security agencies to urgently intervene to rescue them and free their families from trauma .
Recall that the students and a House Officer from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, who were travelling together, were ambushed and kidnapped around Oturkpo by gunmen around 5p.m. while on their way to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu State.
The state Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday, August 16. Its spokesperson, Catherine Anene (SP), said: “Yes, the report of kidnapping is true. The report was received around 5:30pm to 6:00pm and investigation is ongoing.”
