Lawmaker Confirms Air Force Accidentally Bombed Katsina Community

Published:

THE member representing Safana State Constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Abdulkalal Haruna, has confirmed the accidental bombing of Kunkuna village in Safana Local Government Area by a Nigeria Air Force ((NAF) jet.

Haruna, on Tuesday evening, said 14 people were critically injured and were receiving medical attention at the Katsina Teaching Hospital (formerly Federal Medical Centre), and Dutsinma General Hospital.

He disclosed that one woman later died from her injuries sustained after the bomb went off, adding that the incident occurred shortly after the convoy of President Muhammadu Buhari’s advance team was attack by terrorists along the Dutsinma-Yantumaki road in Dutsinma Local Government Area.

He lamented that the terrorists, during their operation, had attacked several communities in the area on the same day, killing 12 people and injured several others, saying efforts of vigilante members and police personnel managed to stop the attackers from committing further atrocities in affected communities.

The lawmaker said due to the military’s bombing and attacks by the terrorists, Kunkuna and several other villages were deserted, as residents fled in fear of another attack.

He, however, stated that as at Wednesday evening, no communication had been initiated between the Air Force and his people over the bombing error.
