THE Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Olaniyi Ijalaye, has died shortly a meeting of RECs across the country at body’s headquarters in Abuja, on Monday, August 19.
Ijalaye, who slumped and died after returning to his hotel room following the meeting, was said to be in high spirits during the crucial meeting summoned to discuss the upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as the filling of vacant positions in the national and state Assemblies.
Ijalaye assumed the position in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Mr. Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.
