Ike Says Disappointed As Court Dismisses N10bn Suit Against Olayinka, INEC

Published:

NOLLYWOOD actor-turned politician, Emeka Ike, has expressed disappointment after a Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed his N10billion fundamental human rights suit against Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Salim Ibrahim, on Wednesday, October 28, upheld preliminary objections filed by the respondents, holding that the suit was incompetent and improperly constituted, consequently dismissing the case.

The actor had sought N10billion in damages over alleged violations of his fundamental human rights.

However, Ike questioned the meaning of fundamental human rights, arguing that individuals could suffer alleged rights violations, online bullying and embarrassment without obtaining justice.

He said: “It’s even crazy that your right will be violated and the Judge will tell you it’s not a fundamental human right. Then what is a fundamental human right? The embarrassment, the bullying online.”

He expressed concerns about the protection available to individuals who believe their rights have been violated, particularly in cases involving online harassment and public embarrassment.
