Gunmen Set Anambra Council Headquarters Ablaze

GUNMEN, in the early hours of Friday, August 30, stormed and set the Atani headquarters of Ogbaru Local Council of Anambra State ablaze.

It was gathered that the attackers, numbering about 30, armed with guns and dynamites, came from the Umuzu and Amiyi axis about 5am, operated unchallenged for over one hour and burnt down four buildings before leaving the scene.

The only building left standing was that housing the council chairman’s office, which was partly touched, and the canteen.

Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga (SP), who confirmed the incident, said a joint team, comprising the Police and vigilant members, chased the hoodlums away.

He also confirmed the destruction of properties in the council headquarters, saying security operations were ongoing to track down the criminals.
