THE immediate past managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Chief George Moghalu, who at the weekend confirmed his intention to run for the governorship seat of Anambra State next year, has vowed to do just a single term of four years.
Moghalu, the pioneer national auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC), now a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), at a press conference at Nnewi, said whatever anyone was unable to do in four years won’t be done in eight years, noting that it is only an unprepared person and one who stumbled into office that often believe he/she needs eight years to make an impression.
Fielding questions from journalists during the session, Moghalu said his burning desire was to restore the citizens confidence in governance once more was has motivated to run, noting that the worst loss any level of administration would suffer was for the citizens to lose confidence in it.
On why he thinks there is need to replace the incumbent Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, Moghalu said “he has failed the people of Anambra State.”
He disclosed that he would unveil his blueprint during his formal declaration at a date to be announced soon, saying he was ready to assist everyone begin to see Anambra’s yawning realised.
He dispelled the speculation making the rounds that he was contesting for the Anambra South senatorial seat to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, even though he acknowledged being qualified for the seat, insisting that his ambition is to be governorship.
“I will be contesting for governor next year and not senate. I recently resigned from the APC and then formally joined the LP on October 1, 2024.
“Before I did so, I consulted extensively with my followers, supporters, political family, my wife and children and my friends and I was convinced that Labour Party is the party that aligns with my person and the best suited platform to realise my ambition.
“We need to redeem Anambra fast, because Soludo has failed the people. There is dearth of infrastructure in the state, security has collapsed.
“We will not tolerate him further. What he could not do in four years, he will never be able to do in eight years. You don’t need eight years to develop Anambra.”
He acknowledged that by the political zoning arrangement in the state, Anambra South, where he hails from, alongside Soludo, is well favoured for the contest; hence he opted to do only one term of fours to complete the turn of the zone.
