A FORMER chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Koko-Besse Local Council of Kebbi State, whose true identity was yet to be ascertained, and another victim elderly, identified as simply Yahya, have pleaded for their freedom from bandits’ captivity, amid worsening health conditions.
In trending video clip shared on social media by one English Alhaji, the ailing, visibly exhausted and distressed men appealled to their families, community leaders and the government to intensify efforts to secure their release, saying were battling health challenges and their condition had deteriorated during their time in captivity.
“Yahya is ill, and I am also battling sickness. As you know, I have been living on medication. Our condition is getting worse in this place,” he said.
He also stated that despite their age and medical conditions, they had been forced to trek long distances through forests alongside their abductors.
Yahya also appealed for urgent intervention, saying they had remained in captivity for an extended period without being rescued, urging concrete steps to secure their release and reunite them with their loved ones.
The victim said: “You can see the humiliating condition we are subjected to in this place. Therefore, we need you to help mobilise and get us out of here. Please help us in the name of God.”
He expressed frustration that those expected to secure their freedom had seemingly abandoned them, reiterating: “If you have given up on us and want us dead, then be straightforward about it so we can give up and tell you our final goodbye.
“We are in a dire situation. Yahya is ill, and I too have been living on medication. Yet, it appears our pleas for negotiation have been ignored. Why are you doing this to us?
“We trek long distances with these people and we’ve been talking, yet there are no results. For the sake of God, be considerate.
“If you’re not willing to help, let us know so we can give up on our lives.”
Yahya, while also calling for urgent action to secure their release, added: “You can see the precarious situation we have found ourselves in. You know I’m not well, just like the chairman.
“Yet we have been abandoned in the woods with these people. For God’s sake, do something to get us out of here.”
Yahya urged relatives, associates and authorities to mobilise support and raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers.
He pleaded: “Please, for God’s sake, help us end this captivity, so we can return to our families. Mobilise the people to help raise the required ransom.
“Do that in the name of God. You should not abandon us here. Act now.”
At a point in the footage, a bandit reportedly instructed the former APC chairman to identify himself and explain his status to those expected to negotiate for his freedom.
Following this, the elderly man simply said: “You know I’ve been the chairman of APC in Koko-Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State, but I’m not any longer. So, please help us out of this captivity.”
He further lamented the dangerous conditions in the forest camp, saying: “Here, we live with reptiles and snakes. The day before yesterday, I almost got bitten by a snake.”
