FG Gifts Super Eagles MON Honour, Lands, Houses

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on all members of Nigeria silver-winner Super Eagles team in appreciation of their performance at the just-concluded CAF 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

  In addition, the Federal Government, represented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has granted each of them a plot of land and a flat in a yet to be announced location. 

   The had urged Nigerians to be of good cheer despite losing the trophy to host country, Cote D’Ivoire, in the final match. 

   Tinubu had on Sunday, February 11, also saluted the Super Eagles for “their tenacious performance,” hailing  the team, coach, crew and entire management for their hardwork, assiduity and sacrifice to come this far in the tournament. 

   “We won a great victory in the hearts of Africa and the world by our grit, rigour and determination in the field of play,” he stated.

   While receiving on Tuesday, the President expressed pride in the team, acknowledging their role in fostering unity within the country through their remarkable performance, even as he encouraged them to hold their heads high and maintain their team spirit.

The team’s Assistant Captain and recipient of the 2023 CAF AFCON Most Valuable Player, Troost Ekong, expressed gratitude to the President for his support.
