*Amupitan Meets RECs
THE Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, has said that the electoral body’s staff responsible for shortfalls recorded in Kuje and Kabusa during the Fenruary 21 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) elections will be investigated and those found culpable punished.
While reviewing the polls at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, on Wednesday, February 25, Amupitan blamed transporters for the delay in the movement of logistics to the Kwali Area Council, saying they will also be blacklisted..
In addition to reviewing the outcomes of the elections, the meeting, held four days after the conduct of the FCT poll and by-elections in Rivers and Kano states, is expected to enable the INEC chairman the opportunity to get feedback from the RECs on their concerns and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
All RECs from the 36 states and the FCT were invited to the meeting, also attended the Forum of State Independent Electoral Commissions, who were on a courtesy visit to the INEC chairman to seek further collaborating with INEC to strengthen local government elections across the states.
