AN explosion, suspected to have been caused by a dynamite planted by yet unknown persons, about 1am on Monday, August 12, rocked the secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) located along the GRA in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
The incident, which damaged the building and some office property, was confirmed by the state Chairman of the party, Mr. Sunny Wokekoro, who said he was on his way to assess the damage done by the explosions shortly after dawn.
The explosion came amid rumours that Governor Siminalayi Fubara plans to defect to the party with his supporters, following allegations that his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has taken over control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The yet unidentified arsonists were reported to have thrown dynamite-like substances into the building, shattering windows and doors and destroying party property.
The Police was yet to confirm the incident at press time.
