Emirship Tussle: Tijjaniyya Leader Denies Asking Sanusi To Reject Reinstatement

Published:

THE global leader of Tijjaniyya Sect, Sheikh Muhammad Mahi Niasse, has dismissed a letter allegedly asking Muhammadu Sanusi II to following his grandfather’s footsteps by rejecting his reinstatement as the Emir of Kano by Governor Abba Yusuf.

In a letter written in Arabic and translated to Hausa, signed by the Kano State Commissioner of Religious Matters, Sani Auwalu Ahmad Tijjani, who is also the Nigerian spokesperson of the Tijjaniyya leader, said the purported letter was forged and did not emanate from Niasse.

He stressed: “In fact, the purported letter has touched on the integrity of our leader, who sees Sanusi II as his disciple in Nigeria and a person of humble background with sound religious character.

“We have given those behind the purported letter 24 hours to show themselves and explain from where it emanated and to whom it was sent, otherwise we will not hesitate to take legal actions against them.”

Tijjani said security agencies had been briefed on the matter and those behind the letter would soon face the full wrath of the law, “because we will ask that he be arrested and prosecuted duly.”

He disclosed that the Tijjaniyya leader has warned that he would not allow the continued desecration of his name, adding:  “This is the second time this kind of letter has been forged against our Global Tijjaniyya Leader.

“The same thing was done during the previous administration of Umar Ganduje, but this time around, anybody who is behind it will have himself to blame.”
