AT least eight soldiers have reportedly died and several others wounded in a suspected Boko Haram insurgents attack on a Nigerian Army base along the Mandara-Buratai Road in Borno State.
Military sources said the attack occurred around 4 a.m. on Friday, June 5, during heavy rainfall, when the terrorists allegedly stormed the position of the 162 Battalion.
It was also gathered that the attackers overran parts of the facility and carried out a brutal assault on troops stationed there, allegedly beheading the soldiers.
The insurgents were said to have arrived in large numbers, reportedly taking advantage of the poor weather conditions to launch the surprise attack.
Following the incident, reinforcement troops were deployed to the area, while efforts were ongoing to determine the full extent of casualties and assess the damage to the military position.
More details were being expected from the military authorities regarding the incident.
