*Obaseki Swears In Omobayo Godwins
As Dep Gov
THE Edo State House of Assembly, on Monday, April 8, impeached the embattled deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, following the adoption of the report of the seven-man investigative panel set up by the state Chief Judge to probe allegations of misconduct against him.
Shaibu has been having a running battle with Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Monday morning.
He was removed by 18 of the 20 members of the Assembly that attended who attended plenary, while one voted against the move.
Recall that Shaibu had refused to continue appearance or honour invitations extended to him by the seven-man panel, headed by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd), citing a Federal High Court, Abuja, ruling, which adjourned until yesterday to continue hearing in his suit challenging moves to remove him.
His Counsel, Prof. Oladoyin Awoyale (SAN), had withdrawn further participation in the proceedings after the panel ruled against his motion.
Consequently, the panel wrote its report and recommended his removal, saying Shaibu declined the opportunity for defence.
The panel, in the reports, said the allegation of perjury could not be substantiated against the former deputy governor by the complainant, while that of disclosure of government official documents was proved beyond reasonable doubt.
Shaibu had disagreed with Obaseki over his ambition to contest the September 12, this year, governorship election majorly over zoning and equity.
Following Shuibu’s impeachment and clearance of 38-year-old Omobayo Marvelous Godwins,as his his replacement, Obaseki immediately swore in the new Deputy Governor.
Godwins hails from Akoko-Edo Local Council in the same senatorial district as Shaibu.
