Delta To Complete Okpanam-Ibusa Road In May– Commissioner

Published:

THE Delta State Government has assured that Okpanam-Ibusa Road project in Oshimili North Local Council would be completed and delivered by May this year.

Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, who gave the assurance during inspection of the Okpanam end of the project on Wednesday, January 31, commended the contractor, Lebtech Construction Limited, for the pace and quality of work done.

Contract for the 5.3-kilimetre road project, with two side concrete drains, measuring 10.6 kilometres, one single cell culvert, one double cell culvert and a triple cell culvert, was awarded on September 29, 2022 by the immediate past administration.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the inspection, the commissioner stated that the last time he accompanied Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to the site, “they had not even contemplated starting the box culverts.

“But between then and now, the contractor has done an appreciable amount of work and with the pace they are going, I do believe that all things being equal, we will be able to deliver this project to the government by the second week of May 2024, so that the governor can inaugurate it for the use of our people in fulfillment of his meaningful development promise to the people of Delta State.”

He added: “Let me also use this opportunity to commend the work schedule of the contractor, I can see that they have planned their sites very well and are following the work schedule. Ultimately with the appropriate financing, the project is expected to be completed and delivered in May, as promised in record time.

“I will also commend the community, you can see how peaceful the environment is. There seems to be an understanding between the contractor and community, and where it is  possible, they allow the machinery to take the back seat, so that able bodied young men who are willing to earn a living legitimately can also earn a living in the course of this project.

“This, off course, is part of Oborevwori’s commitment, to see that as much as possible, Deltans, irrespective of where they are, are assisted to at least live above the extreme poverty line.

“I thank the governor for ensuring that this project inherited from the last administration has been well funded. I commend the engineers of the ministry who are in charge of this project for ensuring that high level of engineering principles are applied in carrying out this project.”
