THE Delta State Government has announced the conversion of Orerokpe Technical College, Orerokpe in Okpe Local Council into a campus, housing the Faculty of Management Sciences of the University of Science and Technology (DSUST), Ozoro.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who disclosed this on Wednesday, March 6, in an interview with journalists shortly after inspecting facilities under construction at the school in Orerokpe, said the Ministry of Technical Education would hand over the facilities to the Ministry of Higher Education for a seamless take-off of the Faculty.

The governor explained that the decision followed approval by the Governing Council of the university for the Faculty to be located in Orerokpe Technical College, which is under construction.

He stated that Delta State University, Abraka, could not absorb all qualified, admission-seeking  Deltans; hence the state government decided to establish three more universities simultaneously, adding: “Today, we are very proud that we have a total of four flourishing universities, and they are still not enough.

“So, we need to create more campuses to address the educational needs of our people. Education is very fundamental to the successes of one’s life. I cherish education.”

Oborevwori disclosed that some of the ongoing projects at the Orerokpe Campus would be completed before the end of October this year.

Recall that there have been protests from Isoko people against the siting of the Faculty in Orerokpe, an Urhobo town, outside Ozoro, an Isoko community and host of the main campus of the university.
