Delta Clears 86% Of N465 Legacy Debts

Published:

THE Delta Government has cleared 86 per cent of its legacy debt by off-setting N400billion out of the N463billion, leaving a balance of N63 billion, which it plans to clear by the first quarter of next year.

Commissioner for Economic Planning, Sonny Ekedayen, disclosed this at the state’s 2026 budget stakeholders’ engagement held in Asaba, said it reflects Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration’s commitment to prudent financial management and responsible utilisation of public resources.

Ekedayen noted that the government would prioritise roads and critical infrastructure in next year’s budget to stimulate economic growth and improve access to communities across the state, adding that the current expenditure structure allocates approximately 70 per cent to capital projects and 30 per cent to recurrent expenditure.

The commissioner stated that the proposed 2027 budget would sustain the emphasis on capital expenditure, while maintaining a smaller allocation for recurrent spending.

The Asagba of Asaba, Obi Epiphany Azinge, underscored the importance of citizens’ participation in budget preparation, commending the government for its reported budget performance.
