Delta Assembly Indicts Embattled Ogwashi-Uku Poly Rector For Financial Misconduct

Published:

THE Delta State House of Assembly has indicted the suspended Rector of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Professor Emmanuel Achuenu, over allegations of financial recklessness, misappropriation of funds and gross disregard for the institution’s Governing Council and enabling laws.
This followed the adoption of the findings of its investigative committee that looked into financial and administrative activities of the institution, which established multiple instances of administrative irregularities and unauthorised expenditures under Achuenu’s leadership, actions the lawmakers described as a “flagrant abuse of office” and “a violation of the rules guiding the management of public institutions.”
Consequently, the Assembly upheld the six-month suspension earlier imposed on Achuenu by the institution’s Governing Council and directed that the Bursar be suspended for six months for his complicity in the financial infractions.
While underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in the management of public funds, the lawmakers emphasised that the state government will not tolerate impunity or disregard for institutional regulations.
The Assembly urged the Ministry of Higher Education to monitor the administration of the polytechnic during the suspension period to ensure continuity and strict adherence to due process.
The rector has be at loggerheads with the institution’s governing council for sundry reasons.
