Crime: Delta Police Arrest Over 100 Suspects

THE Delta State Police Command has attested over 106 crime suspects and rescued 13 kidnapped victims in the last few months.
In addition, the Command has made the state hot for criminals through proactive and intelligence-driven policing, which has led to the arrest of suspects allegedly involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, cultism and sexual offences within the period under review.
Giving details of the Command’s achievements by its officers and men in the ongoing battle against insecurity, on Wednesday, April 16, at its headquarters in Asaba, the state Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, said the suspects arrest was possible because of strategic and intelligence-driven approach to policing to eradicate crime and restore public safety in the state.
He listed arms and ammunition recovered during Police operations to include 11 AK-47 rifles; one G-3 rifle; nine Beretta pistols; 19 single-barrel and cut-to-size guns and 13 pump-action guns, as well as 5,612 rounds of live ammunition and cartridges of various calibre.
The Police chief said 13 kidnap victims were rescued and reunited with their families, while 14 suspected stolen vehicles were also recovered, in addition to the seizure of assorted illicit drugs and substances.
He disclosed that the Command’s operatives gunned down members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in and around Ogwashi-Uku, Ibusa, Issele-Uku, Ubulu-Uku and environs, during a gun battle.
He stressed the importance of community engagement and information-sharing in fighting crime, noting: “Security is everyone’s business. If you see something, say something.
“Residents are encouraged to report any unusual or suspicious movements to the nearest Police station.”
