THE Chairman of Ika North East Local Government, Monday Hunkanma Adigwe, has commissioned a public electricity transformer donated by Dickson Utuke, the Onwa of Umunede Kingdom in Delta State.
Rapidospace.com reported that the transformer, installed at the bus stop along Hospital Road in Ileje Quarters, is expected to supply electricity to a large section of Ileje and Oba Quarters, bringing relief to residents who had endured months of power outage and reivie business activities in the areas.
The community expressed appreciation to Utuke, a German-based philanthropist, for the timely donation, praying for God’s continued blessings upon him.
Following the ceremony, Adigwe, accompanied by Umunede chiefs, friends and family members to Owa-Alero, where Utuke also commissioned a hostel accommodation near the Faculty of Law, University of Delta (UNIDEL), Owa-Alero Campus.
The hostel, named Saint Agatha Hostel, in honour of his wife, Agatha Dickson Utuke, consists of three separate two-storey U-shaped buildings designed to accommodate both male and female students.
The facility is equipped with a functional borehole to ensure steady water supply, as well as a dedicated electricity transformer to guarantee uninterrupted power.
Speaking at the event, Adigwe, again, commended Utuke for his commitment to students’ welfare and contributing meaningfully to the development of the university environment and the Owa-Alero community.
He also thanked the Obi of Umunede Kingdom, Obi Ezeagwu Ezenwali, Agadagidi, and the Obi of Owa Kingdom, Obi Emmanuel Efeizomor, pledging to construct an access road linking the hostel to the university to improve accessibility.
Adigwe said the hostel would significantly help to address accommodation challenges faced by students in Owa and Agbor, while also commending Utuke for donating two vehicles to young men who played key roles in the successful execution of the projects.
The beneficiaries, Dada Uwada, received a Toyota Yaris, while Sunday Nkeonyesor, received a Nissan Micra.
In his remarks, Utuke thanked the beneficiaries for their dedication and commitment, saying their support ensured the success of the projects, despite his loss of about N37million to another party during the execution process.
